Nonprofit Agencies

Every day, nonprofit agencies play a significant role in the lives of many Americans. For thousands of children, these organizations teach them the values, communication and life skills they need. For the elderly and disabled, nonprofit agencies provide crucial services that improve their quality of life and help them continue to live with dignity.

With the responsibilities our nonprofit agencies have, the need for the right volunteers and staff members is paramount. The Texas State Legislature agrees. In 1995, a law was passed that grants Volunteer Centers access to the complete arrest and conviction records – including juvenile records – of those who deal with vulnerable clients. It is this law that makes it possible for
veriFYI to provide your agency with a complete criminal background check of applicants and employees.

Specifically, the law states that we can conduct background checks for agencies that involve the care or access to:

  • A child
  • An elderly person
  • A person who is mentally incompetent, mentally retarded, physically disabled, ill or incapacitated

Furthermore, you may want to consider background checks for volunteers or staff who will perform services in a residence or have access to money.

By using veriFYI, you’ll have access to:
  • State Records. Most state records show offenses and convictions committed in certain states.  Information is taken from Department of Corrections records, Sexual Offense records, Department of Public Safety records, Bureau of Investigations records or Administrator of the Courts records where applicable.
  • Texas State Records.  Available only in Texas.  This typically includes arrests and convictions, including adjudicated records and juvenile offenses committed in Texas.  Information is reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).  Aliases, warrants, and other information may be included.
No commercial vendor has access to this information!

  • Social Security Trace. To verify identity and ensure that the person being checked is, in fact, who they say they are. This trace includes out-of-state residence information as well.

  • National Database Search of Sex Offender Records. This will scan databases from around the country to find any record of arrest or conviction of sexual offenses against adults and children and certain sexual contact and other crimes against victims who are minors.
